All Saints Church and Radwell are an oasis for reflection and peace. Radwell was originally called Reedwell or Radewelle. In Saxon times “well” defined a spring and there must have been many reeds before the area was drained for farming.
The hamlet and its spring-fed mill are popular with walkers. Prior to Covid-19, from about May to September, there were delicious homemade tea and cakes to be had in the Radwell Village Hall on Sunday afternoons.
During the pandemic, the Church is open for visitors on Sundays from 10am to 4pm. The church can be opened at other times by arrangement. The church is not heated, can only be reached by steps and does not have a toilet. The Baldock Motorway Services is half a mile away and has well-maintained WC and Washroom facilities, along with a Food Court, WH Smith and M&S Simply Food.
Groups can also arrange a Quiet Day or Mini Retreat. Revd. Bill can lead groups on a mini-Pilgrimage through Radwell, using a series of short reflections on God’s plan of salvation as unveiled in the Old and New Testaments, using architectural features of the hamlet and All Saints Church to bring the story alive.
Arrangements can be made for groups to hire the Village Hall, which has kitchen and toilet facilities.
Groups on retreat have stayed overnight using the Radwell Lake Camping and Caravan site or the Glamping Yurt. Baldock Services has a 62-room Days Inn Hotel.
